ROBIN HOOD GARDENS
Robin Hood Gardens is a masterpiece by Peter and Alison Smithson. It sits at the northern entrance to the Blackwall Tunnel. It is to be demolished since planning poermission has recently been granted for a replacement housing scheme Should we as architects chain ourselves to the structure to preserve this magnificent building?
SOME SCUPLTURE
For me sculpture is an attempts not just to obtain a likeness, but to capture something of the essence of the person. These sculptures are both of the same model. The head captures something of her. The full body pose aims to record her postion but only partially succeeds.
This head was difficult because it was difficult to distinguish the line of the face through the beard. The sculpture is unfinished. In my opinion it captures little of the person.
